OUR STORY

Scotland Storm Community Development, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization that provides free after-school and summer academic and sports programs for children in the historic Scotland Community in Potomac, Maryland.
The organization was founded by Chris and Lauren Mead, who recognized a need in their community; some students in the Potomac, Maryland public school district did not have the requisite resources and skill sets to excel in school. By founding Scotland Storm, Chris and Lauren provided an opportunity for these students to gain much-needed academic support and guidance.
Scotland Storm launched in September 2013 with 27 Bells Mill Elementary School students. In the 2013-14 school year, we provided homework assistance and one-on-one academic tutoring in reading and math. During the summer of 2014, we expanded to include students from Cabin John Middle School and offered a six-week academic and sports camp. Both Bells Mill and Cabin John are schools within the Potomac public school district.

Scotland Storm has been expanding ever since, and we are excited to see how our organization will continue to grow in the coming years to best serve the needs of our students.
